Women In Defense Honors Women In National Security at 4th Annual White Party

Women In Defense (WID), A National Security Organization hosts event honoring Dr. Claire Leon, Director of the Launch Enterprise Directorate, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base; Brenda Threatt, Executive Director U.S.VETS - Long Beach; and Michelle Scarpella sector vice president, Global Logistics and Operational Support, for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems.

IRVINE, CA -Women In Defense, A National Security Organization - Greater Los Angeles Chapter (WID-GLAC) held its 4th Annual WHITE PARTY on Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Long Beach, CA. The event raised funds for the HORIZONS Scholarships and honored the achievements of several outstanding women within the Southern California Aerospace and Defense community; presenting them with a Service to the Flag Award.

The event was held at the Hotel Maya in Long Beach, CA. It was a spectacular setting on the waterfront of Long Beach Harbor adjacent to the Queen Mary.

The 100+ guests in attendance were encouraged to wear White Attire or Military Dress to celebrate the accomplishments of the honorees:

  • GOVERNMENT/MILITARY: Dr. Claire Leon, a member of the Senior Executive Service, is the Director of the Launch Enterprise Directorate, Space and Missile Systems Center, Air Force Space Command, Los Angeles, Air Force Base, California.

  • COMMUNITY: Brenda Threatt Executive Director U.S.VETS - Long Beach; providing daily housing and services for over 550 veterans.

  • INDUSTRY: Michelle Scarpella is sector vice president, Global Logistics and Operational Support, for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems, a premier provider of military aircraft, autonomous and space systems and next-generation solutions to assist our customers worldwide, preserve freedom and advance human discovery.

The event culminated with a $4,000 dollar donation presented to the Women In Defense HORIZONS Scholarship Fund, which awards funding annually to women to studying science, technology, engineering, math, and other national-security related fields.
