OUR STORY

Mission
Cultivate and support the advancement and recognition of women in all aspects of national security in the Los Angeles, Orange County, and surrounding areas.

Women In Defense Greater Los Angeles Chapter (WID-GLAC) is the 18th chapter of Women In Defense (WID), a national security organization affiliated with NDIA, which cultivates and supports the advancement and recognition of women in all aspects of national security.  WID-GLAC was founded October 2012 to support members in Los Angeles, Orange County, and surrounding areas.  Our membership is comprised of a diverse demographic of women and men from a significant cross-section of aerospace, defense, and national security professions including manufacturing, design & engineering, advisory services, and academia. WID-GLAC is a source for networking, professional development, and mentoring with other women leaders.

CHAPTER GOALS

  • Cultivate the advancement of women leaders in government, defense, and national security professions

  • Provide networking opportunities to exchange information and expand professional contacts to promote partnerships

  • Create programs, events and forums that encourage active participation by chapter members and expand membership

  • Offer mentoring program for established professionals, as well as mentoring environment for middle school to college aged girls

  • Participate within the community and volunteer services

  • Support Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Initiative (STEMi)

  • Hold a bi-annual workshop/ development programs for our membership and the community to enhance career opportunities

  • Gain corporate sponsors

  • Recognize local women leaders in the defense industry through an awards program

HORIZONS

SCHOLARSHIP

WID-GLAC contributes to Women In Defense HORIZONS Scholarship Program, which has made 116 awards of more than $180,000 to deserving recipients pursuing education toward a career in national security since 1990.
